hms york doing full power trials , traveling at approx 30 knots,on 2 olympus gas turbines, turning 2 shafts each producing around 25.000 bhp
and the fuel comsimption,,,, a very high 44 gallon per minute

@zarquon53 Those were Abidel class minelayers. 40kts were about par for those speedy boats, all armed for AAA and did double duty as gunrunners during the war. The story goes in 1956 during the Suez Crisis, MANXMAN blew past an American Carrier Group doing better than 40kts, showing the flags: "See you in Egypt". Or the story went...

They had a frigate's hull with cruiser engines and they showed it too!
