ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) clears private property for the DHL Highway/Truck Route which is being built "where the beneficiary is a single private entity" (ODOTs statement) - that being DHL, who has announced they are leaving the area (and presumably don't need the bypass anymore to the tune of $140M+). Add to this the city recently announced enterprise and historic zones to drive traffic into town where as the bypass is designed to drive traffic out of town. You can't make this stuff up. A nice little boondoggle for Gov. Strickland, the county commissioners and the whole lot of them.

  • I'm sorry it has happened to you too. I worked for DHL and bought into the whole Wilmington plan. I bought a house in Wilmington and made a run of it. Now, it's worth half of what I paid for it. Still, I'm not as bad off as you. Oops is right. Best of luck in your fight. I will never give another penny to DHL.

  • Thanks for your comments. It's not been fun. I'm sorry for your troubles as well. We'll all get through it eventually but it's a shame it's going to cost us our livelihoods and peace of mind.

  • I am sorry that your property was damaged by ODOT. I know if I were in your situation, I wouldn't be happy about it either. As for allanhowls, I think you need to step back and put yourself in his shoes. I think you need to be a more open minded as to what this individual is going through. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and no one said you had to agree with anyone elses. I think you are terribly rude in attacking another person for posting something that affects them.

  • Thank you for your support lmc4344. I appreciate it.

  • Yes, because that big-ass, ugly eyesore of a spraypainted sign on 73 is just SO MUCH BETTER! Nothing looks more immature and white-trash than a public, foot-stomping, pouting airing of grievances. No matter how bad it gets, Wilmingtonians always manages to make themselves look a little worse.

  • Funny. Could you do me a favor? Could you make me a better looking banner? I mean so I don't embarrass myself and my "white-trash" neighbors any more? I'd really appreciate it, thanks. Oh, and I apologize for bringing my petty little grievance about constitutionally protected private property rights to your attention. Great minds such as your own clearly should not be burdened by such trivial matters. Your right, it's a private matter and should remain as such.

  • I am a frequent driver by your property. 4 times a day by semi, 2 to cinci, 2 back. Didn't pick up on your sign til 2day

I might correct you on one small detail. You are correct in saying the bypass would not have been built if not for DHL. However, the bypass will relieve Wilmington from grain haulers like me, stone trucks, most box trailers, Which is good.

However, to see your property rights trampled with an unconstitutional power (emminent domain) is outrageous to say the least.

  • I wish you well in your fight odotandme. I think allanhowls is going a bit overboard, I don't think your sign is an eyesore, and I don't think standing up for your rights is immature pouting. More people need to do that. I realize people have a right to their opinion, but geez I've seen a helluva lot worse things along the road.

  • Sorry about your trees. They are irreplaceable. What a shame. An even bigger shame is the complete disregard for your property rights. Local governments all over this land are violating the constitution left and right under so-called "eminent domain." The complete disregard for private property is the real story here. Stick to your guns and demand restitution!

  • Look on the bright side...If the bypass road gets put in it makes the Airpark more appealing for an outside buyer (FedEx, UPS, etc, etc) to want to do business in Wilmington. Time is money and that road will save the next company time.

It does suck about your trees.....they were probably more expensive than your house.

  • regardless of where the road went, you don't be so stupid to cut someone elses trees down and you don't be so stupid to make such rediculous comments on a sign unless you had it done to yourself. Can't wait to see the one Allanhowles makes.
