This follow up video shows the actual separation of the LCD from the digitizer (touch sensor) for the Garmin Nuvi 350. This will be similar on several of the Garmin models.

  • hi , there is a cracked across my screen garmin nuvi 255w . well , i want to replace it and so i need to order the digitizer . but the main point here , i need to use overseas already and the ordering will take some time .

so can i just take out the digitizer and just use it like normal ?

  • @MrXamenyap If you actually remove the digitizer, the device will no longer recognize your 'touch'. You would only be able to turn the GPS on and off but it wouldn't allow you to advance between screens. The good news is that eBay has quite a few sellers that offer the 255W digitizer starting at about $12 US. Just go to ebay and type in Garmin Nuvi 255W digitizer and you'll find several. I hope this helps you and thank you for watching.

  • @terrorizingtheturbin all right , thanks for the reply . i checked ebay . and they mentioned that they have 2 types of digitizer . so how would i know in order to avoid buying wrongly ? =(

  • @MrXamenyap Go to ebay and type in this part number 320520531165. This company is based in Hong Kong so they are probably closer to you (faster shipping) anyway. When you order from them make sure you email them a picture of your digitizer. They will look at the photos and make sure its the correct model. Garmin is famous for releasing GPS devices then revising either the LCD or digitizer a few months later. It makes it so much harder to get the right parts..

  • @MrXamenyap ...their email address is posted at the bottom of the listing so you can send them photos. They would probably request them if you didn't since this digitizer was changed after it was 1st released.

  • on my garmin nuvi 255w the glass is broken but the lcd is fine. can i do this trick to revive the gps device?

the touch screen still works on areas not close to the crack epicenter

  • @mypetridish Absolutely. I wish I could share my wholesalers with viewers but eBay has several sellers that are offering this digitizer for less than $12. Sorry about the delayed response. I hope this helps you a little.

  • i just bought the screen and it comes with the digitizer if i want to change everything is it gonna be easier to to take one whole part apart instead of just the screen

  • srry to ask this dumb question but I'm kindda confused :-{ .. I have one of those "off-brand" gps from ebay with the Nav N go software and the glass broke(when I turned it on, was able to see a blurry picture but I touched the screen and now I can only see lines) what do I need to replace? the digitizer or the lcd?.... I tried to separate the screen as you did and pieces of broken glass came off as I was doing it, Thanks for your help

  • @terrorizingtheturbin Your video should show the side that you are actually working on, also it should show more light on the subject. All we can see is the back side of the screen and it is dark. Thanks.

  • @MrXamenyap Keep in mind you will need to have some soldering skill as the solder is onto a ribbon cable and not a regular hard chipboard surface.

  • @terrorizingtheturbin I ordered mine off ebay for $11.20 USD, I am repairing my Nuvi 255W - I got the other kind as the one in this video is different. My question is, are they going to send me a peice of (touch screen) glass with the sensor on it (digitizer) but without the metal frame around it? or with the metal frame? I am having a hard time getting the broken screen/digitizer off the original metal frame - by this I mean the frame around the glass, not the top cover of the Garmin GPS.
