    Unfortunately, Pippis was closed down by the police in about 1980 because, well,because ostensibly more than jazz was happening up there. Too bad, because that was my main jazz school in 1978 and 1979. I still run into Kirk Lightsey once every couple of years over here in Paris France where he's been living for the last 20 years.

  • Great to see (and hear) the great Henry Franklin again. the band is burning ! Is George Harper any relation to Billy Harper ?

    I used to go to the jam sessions on Sunday afternoons at Pippis on Cahuenga and Hollywood in Los Angeles) with Henry Franklin's trio with Carl Burnett and Kirk Lightsey back at the end of the 1970s.
