Now that we see a great many surface mounted components being used in modern day TVs many repairmen are so intimidated they may forget there are still a great many serviceable components and circuits, Especially the switch mode power supply. Here are a few ebooks I thought were very helpful.

For someone new to electronics the first few pages of this book may be a bit challenging but the majority of this book is easy reading with lots of pictures, diagrams, and useful troubleshooting techniques. Johns book has helpful info about servicing LCD TVs. The most helpful points I learned in this book are the main test points and their approximate voltages.

How to troubleshoot and repair Switch Mode Power supplies by Jestine Yong at http://davestv.jestinemichellepow.click2sell.eu This was an expensive ebook but the best I have ever read on switching power supplies.Jestine is good at getting right to the main points you need to understand about troubleshooting this kind of power supply and their associated feedback circuits.
Since a majority of the problems I have seen on LCD TVs are related to bad power supplies this is one book I'm glad to have in my collection. Most of the book was easy reading with plenty of pictures and diagrams.

I have not yet read Jestines book on Testing electronic components but I was told it's a good one for a person just starting out in electronic troubleshooting.

Even though this book was about computer monitor repair I found most of the troubleshooting techniques he demonstrates also applied to LCD TV repair so I was glad to have read it. Much like the book on Switch Mode Power Supplies it was easy to read and similar to Johns Prehers book on LCD repair but in Jestines own style. It had lots of pictures and good troubleshooting techniques.

When I first started in the TV repair business and my troubleshooting skills were not that great often times Mike's case histories told me exactly which parts I needed to replace and it often saved me from having to purchase a great many schematics. and which parts he replaced to get them going. I found this ebook was helpful in better understanding the connection between certain symptoms and their causes. Right now it's only 10 dollars.

Hi, I've been watching your videos for the last few weeks, and it's very nice of you of doing them. We all appreciate.

Now, I've got the above tv set, and now, it's been doing some funny noise, and going black. I have managed to get working PSU, Inverter, and Tcon, and I've changed them all, but the problem remains, would you suggest anything else, there's not much else to be the source of the problem, but Main AV board. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

@JeffTheDudeLebowski1 I never like to guess at what's wrong with a TV I have never seen or done any tests on, but based on what your saying perhaps the main board is the problem?

You do use the repair manuals don't you or just intuition?

@Ibringthetruth1 I mostly use my knowledge and understanding of electronic servicing. Schematics are harder to come by these days, and not as easy to follow as they use to be.

@GrantsPassTVRepairs Thanks for replying so quickly, I think I'll try replacing that, anyway it seems to be the last piece of hardware to change, Thanks once again... I'll try to film the problem to show you over youtube, curiously, the tv has been on for over 2 hours, and no sign of the problem, maybe it's feeling it'l be filmed ;-).
