lalala human steps "amelia"

From 2003, "Amelia" is choreographer Edouard Lock's amazing film with Lalala Human Steps, the Canadian dance company. Yeah I was shocked too. Music by David Lang, words by Lou Reed. Locke takes a brilliant step with classical ballet here much the way Alarm Will Sound has done with classical music. You can find them on my channel as well as the link to my blog where I write about artists who take risks and bring us in new directions. Sometimes they blow it but most of the time, like Locke, they don't. Fatova Mingus.

I don't know, I think you are right about her being his plaything and her wanting to escape. But rather then she being pulled back to him, I think she is dependent on him. She is a puppet and puppet can't move without a puppet master.

I always thought it suspicious that the men remained way more clothed in the film than the women too. It's probably true for most of dance/ballet anyhow but this was one of the first clips that got me interested in out-there contemporary dances.

To me they are totally working together. She needs him to turn so fast, to keep her balance, to be that amazing. I know Jason (Shipley-Holmes) from La La La Human Steps, and his whole work is to get to the point where the woman is a free as possible to fly. He just supports them the way they need, his approach and positions are different for every partners, it's really a f...ing awesome work of partnering !
