A dot after a note increases its value by one-half the value of the original note. For example, if you have a dotted quarter note (one beat), it would change to a one and one half beat.

It adds half the value to the note that has been dotted. If you dot a half not it gets gets half or half added to it. this also pertain to the signature value. Maybe I should do a short video on that.... it adds half the value basically.
