@tiengallavant Namie amuro is pop, NOT r&b. Doing the occasional song doesn't make you an 'r&b' artist. Korea has a lot more dedicated artists to their version of the genre than Japan does.

宇多田以外の人が歌ってもどうなんだ？と思って聴いたけど、すご­くいい。（中尾ミエが歌うのを見て不潔感にぞっとしたことがあっ­て ^^; ）　さすが平井堅さん。ピアノだけなのも意外なほどいい。オリジナル­は青々してたけど、これは大人になってからのピュアな恋を思わせ­てロマンティック。

@Hitomiaka It's successful b/c every1 knows her bg- i.e. growing up mostly in NYC- and that in the majority of her R&B songs her japanese is pretty accented towards the american spectrum opposed to a more native one b/c that's how she chooses to sing the songs. Its the same with Becky- japan heavily discriminates against half japanese unless they're already famous for reasons they can't remember & then they're popular for the novelty of their background & thus vindicated in how they do something

Utada did R&B and it was successful. And singing R&B had nothing to do with being ghetto. Its a genre of music. Nothing less. Nothing more.
