  • I hate Amazon listopia. Useless. I GREW UP on horror. The only thing I ever did with my dad as a kid was watch cheesy horror movies. All I read was horror. My mom's friend had her convinced that it was a sign I was going to be a sociopath or something.

I kinda burnt myself out on it, I think, 'cause it doesn't appeal to me as much any more, but I still have a soft spot for the ones I read as a kid.

I just read an article about the sheltering of kids & how inhibiting it is to their growth.

  • @BookRatMisty Link???? That's a topic very close to my heart. It's that same reason that HR departments are flailing trying to figure out what to do with all these employees who need to handheld to do the simplest tasks. Dear God, my wife (who's in management) has to go to Dealing with Gen Y seminars. It's crazy.

  • I agree with 100% of everything you said! WE NEED MORE YA HORROR! This Halloween, I'm going back and reading a lot of R. L. Stine because there's not very many new YA horror books out there, other than the Daemon Hall series and Rot & Ruin, which I can't wait for! Thanks so much for this list! It'll really help fill up my September - October reading list. And, yes, do a Halloween TBR! I'd like to see it!

  • @bookmovieguy What's your favorite R.L. Stine book. I've never read one but my old editor used to write them. Most of them are ghost-written but I suspect you already know that.

  • Great vid. It really is sad that some genres seem to die out...oh and I would love a TBR video :)

  • @TheBookChronicles Planning one already. ;)

  • Thank you for your list!!! Please do a video on the horror books you are reading for the next couple of months for halloween!!!!!! I would like to see it!!!!!

  • I one hundred per cent agree. I grew up with goosebumps and I read King now, but here's the thing: I love horror, and I love YA, but when you said "YA Horror" it struck me as a fairly unfamiliar concept. A concept that makes me really excited, but an unfamiliar one, because there's so little of it these days. That's why I got so excited about Gretchen's book, as well, because it sounded like a legit horror novel with a YA protagonist, which these days is really unique.

  • The Nightmarys was a good book. I reviewed it myself a while ago and felt silly for being so creeped out by a YA book. It's a great thing though, it's not easy to find a book that gets to me as much as a movie does.

  • I'm afraid (no pun intended) that I'm going to disappoint you. I don't like horror. I have an incredibly active imagination and if I watch something scary, the nightmares are just too intense. It's really the violence that gets to me.

My dad is a huge fan of horror movies and exposed me to them when I fairly young (around 8 or 9). I just couldn't deal.

I might be able to handle horror books more than horror movies though, so I'm willing to check some of these books out.

  • I love Horror~I'm so happy that there is now a list of scary books that I can mass buy from :D It really pisses me off that great books like the Monstrumologist get very little attention while some paranormal-romance drivel seems to fly off the shelves -_-' But yeah, great video! :)

  • You are awesome! I love reading horror and I love being scared but it is just so hard to find any YA horror these days. I'm definitely going to read more of the books on your list, and look for some that would be good additions as I want more horror! :)

  • It IS totally wild to see how trends change in what readers like and what gets popular from decade to decade. Very cool discussion and exploration of what and why genuine horror is experiencing a down-swing in YAlit. And ooo, great list!!

  • @dannymarksya Oh geez, I'll see if I can find it. It was something about coddling and how removing "dangerous" playground equipment (you know, the good kind) and not letting kids run for fear they'll fall cripples them and their decision making later in life.
