@scholarmark The great flee happened because idiots like you were brainwashed with white mens 1950 cold war propaganda. Everything that people talked about, landgrabs, nationalisation, end of dual system, happened.
This proves that 1) people like you are dumber than dogshit and 2) you are easily manipulated.
@Elbottoo And more, if it was such a jubilant thing about handover HK to PRC, the great flee from Hong Kong wouldn't have happened in the 1990's. That's the lone reason why Toronto, Vancouver, Melbourne and Calgary are now "colonised" by Hong Kong people.
I do appreciate your care about our country though~ ^^
@Elbottoo You don't get my point. I am a Hong Kong local and I am Chinese myself. The problem that lies in the handover incident wasn't something about power. I am definitely OK if Britain is handing HK back in the hands of the original or successive government in China, which it - as you said, for power - it actually gifted Hong Kong to PRC. Britain 'borrowed' this territory from Ching, and the successor of Ching, Republic of China (Taiwan), though very much deminished, is still here.
@scholarmark Because Hong Kong is/ was not British to begin with. You either hand it back nicely, in which case youll be given an honorable retreat. Or it will be taken back from you by force if necessary. You have absolutely no say in the matter, son. Stop pretending like as if you have legitimate control and or still is an awesome superpower. There was nothing you could have done about it and it was stolen property to begin with. lol I like the level of delusion that people like you have
Mrs Chan once borrowed a bottle of rice wine for cooking from her neighbourhood the Chengs. Eventually, before Mrs Chan could return the wine, the Chengs moved out and Mr Lam became the new neighbour. This time Mrs Chan had totally forgotten about the wine, not until Mr Lam moved and in came the Wongs.
The question is:
Should Mrs Chan return the wine to the Wongs?
Same thing happened in Chinese History. Why on earth should Britain "return" HK to the PRC?

So Canada, Australia and New Zealand are not rich?

So what happens when the Chengs are dead and have no heir?
The Qing Dynasty was replaced by the Republic of China. It doesn't seem feasible to hand HK to Taiwan control.
As long as Beijing does not overstep its bounds and leave HK to run itself, what happened is the best possible outcome.

Still, the wine should be returned to the Chengs, and not to the Wongs.

What if Mrs. Chan put a gun to the Mr. Cheng's head and told him to "lend" the wine?

Let's do a simplest reasoning:
Mrs Chan once borrowed a bottle of rice wine for cooking from her neighbourhood the Chengs. Eventually, before Mrs Chan could return the wine, the Chengs moved out and Mr Lam became the new neighbour. This time Mrs Chan had totally forgotten about the wine, not until Mr Lam moved and in came the Wongs.
