Halton Action Group Against The Incinerator, H.A.G.A.T.I. are a group of residents from Halton, which is located on the banks of the River Mersey, near Liverpool, in the North West of England. This is where the chemical company, Ineos Chlor, have decided to build an enormous municipal incinerator, which is designed to burn around 850,000 tons of waste every year. The members of HAGATI want the wider public to know why they are concerned about the decision to build this incinerator in Halton. They want to bring to the attention of the residents of Halton, and the Merseyside community, their concerns about the potential health hazards associated with exposure to Dioxin, Furans and heavy metal emissions which will be released as a consequence of the incineration of chlorinated plastics and waste materials. HAGATI is concerned about the dangers posed to the susceptables and children at the foetal stages of development who may be at risk if Ineos Chlor goes ahead with their plan to build the Incinerator.
