Richard Sterban of the Oak Ridge Boys singing backup for Elvis Presley.

Who hasn't heard the "Oom pa pa mau mau" bass parts in the Oaks' 1981 smash hit, "Elvira," and has not tried to imitate this exceptional bass voice? Richard's voice is so phemnominal that when he sings, there is NEVER a quiet woman in the house.

Richard has been a member of the Oak Ridge Boys since 1972. The Oaks aren't all that he has under his belt. Richard used to sing back up for Elvis, you can hear his very distinctive bass voice during the practice.

  • @StudioGoldsmith Actually, Richard Sterban wasn't part of the Oak Ridge Boys at the time. He toured with JD and the Stamps at the time and recorded many songs with them because JD said that they songs need a "youger" sounding bass. Richard stopped touring with the Stamps in 72 and joined the Oak Ridge Boys later that year. Those are the Stamps around Richard, along with The Sweet Inspirations, Charlie Hodge, JD, and Elvis.

  • @ContainsVitaminC I John

  • Some video... Oak ridges are singing with Elvis @ backstage.. And you can even see JD Sumner at the end :o

  • This little performance has really gotten into my bones.

  • @saanderud JD Sumner and the Stamps quartet backed Elvis for a number of years. Many people feel that JD had the lowest singing voice ever.

  • @ChangsUncle who is JD? just curious...

  • You can catch a glimpse of JD at 1:28
