This happened when I was about 7 or 8, I still remember. You can't see it. But they ejected and the flame engulfed them as it went down. It was surreal for me.

This is so sad. I know the family of the man who died in the crash. I just never saw what happened. Such a terrible thing.

The guy with mullet has my attention. But no, seriously, terrible accident.

@JAAG76AZ nope actually those seats are not that good because they are not zero zero seats ,they require a certain amount of forward speed and also in some cases altitude to work , my conclusion if they had ACES II seats the WSO would have made it , the pilot looked like it was late regardless and would not have made it

@bladensburg1814 At the age of 57 I couldn't agree more lovey . I am dreading the onset of old age (having already found i have the occassional twinges) so I think when the time comes It'll be a bottle of my favourite Booze on a summer evening in the dunes by the beach , then the pills or whatever and snuggle down in the sleeping bag and drift off to sleep watching the first stars come out in the dusk .
Bugger going in a nursing home .

I hope no one gets angry at me for saying this...(r.i.p. to pilots and families) if I had to die young...id rather die in a very cool jet...rather than die very slowly of old age with alzheimers in a nursing home wearing diapers...thats just my thoughts on it! / @ milwaukee
Not all USAF phantoms got a gun!!! The Airforces version of the Navy's F-4B the
F-4C did not have a gun, neither did the
F-4D which was the same as the Navy's F-4J did not have a gun. The F-4E was the first Phantom to have a gun, before the E model, the Airforce hung a gun pod on the middle rack of the plane. The Airforce's Phantom fought more than half of the war without a gun and the Navy never put a gun in, for the entire life of the fighter.

One ejected late, but both crew members died. Sad, the pilot flew the plane, after a double flame out, back to the open field. He was a hero, sad, you Yanks are arguing about such frivolous shite.
