The Corporation for a Skilled Workforce (CSW) held a two-day intensive "boot camp" called WorkforceCamp designed to immerse local, regional and state policy makers and program professionals new to the field in workforce development issues trends, policy, and practice. The WorkforceCamp provides a great introduction to the field of practice that we call "workforce development" and our collective role in making our programs, and therefore our communities, stronger.
Colleagues from government agencies, workforce boards, economic development organizations, colleges, private-sector firms and associations, and non-profit and community-based organizations attended an intense introduction to the field of workforce development.
They learned to:
~ Examine the history, lessons learned, and social context of major workforce policy efforts
~ Translate the federal "workforce system" to others and what it looks like in communities
~ Make sense of and use labor market information
~ Analyze data, engage communities, and make strategic program and policy choices
~ Develop new financial resources
~ Assess current trends in workforce policy/strategy
Here, campers share their experiece
