Vacancy rates for green sustainable office buildings in Ottawa are dropping lower than their old, unrenovated "brown" counterparts.
That's according to Cushman Wakefield, a real estate firm tracking the sector.
Vacancy rates for offices that are automated, recycle air and water are below six per cent.

Brown buidlings are over seven.

20 per cent of all office space in Ottawa is now green, double what it was last year.

Robert Smith is the director of Innovation and Footprint for Minto Group.

Its 19-storey green office tower at 180 Kent has applied for the highest 3rd party environmental design rating in Canada.

Smith says the industry is trying to keep up with tennant demand for sustainable and healthy work places.

Cushman Wakefiel expects 25 per cent of Ottawa's office space to be green by the end of the next year.
