Syracuse man catches thieves on video News WSTM NBC3

This is the actual news coverage of a bicycle theft that happened June 14, 2009 at 9:50 PM. The location of the theft is at 1415 Grant Boulevard on the city of Syracuse's North Side. Remember there is still a $200.00 reward for anyone who can positively identify these thieves. If you can positively Identify either of these thieves and the police can make an arrest based on that information you will receive the cash reward. There was an eye witness to this crime and with your help they can be brought to justice.

We aren't dealing with rocket scientists here. The kid in the white shirt Marcal (sp) I heard was dating a stripper that was related to him. He called my cell phone from a poster I left at the local Byrne Dairy. He left a voice message saying he can sue me for slander. Obviously giving details of the crime on a recorded message implicated him in the commission of this crime. See Marcal, Law abiding citizens report crime not participate in it. I relayed this to the SPD. It's on file.

As far as the racist comment, I am happy to see more people rejecting that sort of ignorant behavior than encouraging it. Stop blaming all of your shortcomings in life on other people. We are all responsible for our own actions. I will do what is neccessary to protect my family and my property. That is all any of us can do. I don't live in fear in my community because we are all watching and people know who these kids are.

I've read the comments to this video. The kids that did this are fully aware that they are on YouTube. They have ridden by my house, probably on stolen property, late at night yelling "We're on YouTube" I left this video up as a permanent reminder to them that kids do stupid things and as adults there are adult penalties to pay. They can brag it up to their friends all they want to now but when it comes down to getting a job in the future, this video may come back to haunt them.

The lesson: cops can't protect you or your property, you have to do it yourself. Which stinks. It would be worthwhile to hire twice as many cops, and run down every theft, vandalism, etc. that comes in. But in the meantime, build a fortress (I'm sad to say). And set up high resolution video cameras, if you can afford it.
