"Urban Mosaic: Searching for Portland," featuring Helen Gordon (Director, Portland Jewish Community Center Nursery School) and Andries Deinum (Founder, Center for the Moving Image at Portland State University).

Presented by the Portland Center for Continuing Education and Oregon Educational Broadcasting. Film by Tom Taylor III; produced by Andries Deinum; directed by William Vandever.

In this final episode of the series "Urban Mosaic," Portland Jewish Community Center child care director Helen Gordon discusses the philosophy, history, and functions of the center's nursery school with Portland State film instructor Andries Deinum. Conversations with teaching staff, volunteers, community members, and parents throughout the film express the center's collaborative approach to pre-school education, which emphasizes family involvement, problem-solving through communication, and respect for others in a culturally and socially diverse environment.
