Speaking of June looking cheerful during the comedy, Anita's face certainly matches the sad song lyrics! I can't help but feel bad for her as I watch this. By the way, what's with June's right arm when she first sings the chorus, at around 3:24? It looks like maybe she's trying to keep rhythm, but I've never seen anyone do it like that before.

Oh, c'mon. Divorcing/divorced husbands and wives performing together is an old tradittion. The original Carter Family consisted of A.P. and Sara Carter, who were estranged/divorced and June's mother Maybelle. Lucy and Desi kept performing while they were estranged.

I don't think we see anything of how June was feeling during this time. She grew up performing and she was a true pro. What a loser Carl Smith was if he dumped her. But she and Johnny were made for each other.

June was use to strumming an instrument while writing songs and singing, especially the autoharp. That's also why her hand and fingers look a little different. That's how the autoharp is strummed.

I absolutely love this one too! He cheated on her but they did try to work it out for awhile. & contrary to what someone said

she sang songs to let him know that she forgave him & still loved him at first !
