@mixmasterpatb Ok, thanks much for that info--after that, I think I'll stay put, lol, j/k....I think I have sufficient info to make an informed choice now. I really don't have a problem with where I am now, but after hearing how beautiful the Pacific NW is and seeing all those breathtaking videos, I thought why not? You know what they say: the grass is always greener on the other side." Sometimes that's true and other times, not so much. Happy Holidays to all of you! Bye bye.

@mixmasterpatb The reason I'm asking is that being a retired older gentleman in my 60s, I'd much prefer an area considered to be more safe & less busy; not dead, but relatively quiet with more ppl in my age group, but within a reasonable distance to dntn Seattle which is why I'm now looking more at Everett to the north where Boeing is; seems nice there, quieter and apt. rents are affordable. Also close to Puget Sound and parks to ride my bike. Any info there would be appreciated.

@nostalgiamelancolia1 I did that on Google Earth @ street level and it feels a bit like downtown Manhattan in NYC; just not as crowded. Lived & worked (in the garment district downtown) in NYC for 4 yrs after HS Grad from age 18 to 22 and found it quite exciting, but a bit much!!...huge & overcrowded would be an understatement, but after all, it is New York City we're talking about which is a microcosm of the entire world so what can you expect. 4 yrs was enough for me; way too big & impersonal.

@nostalgiamelancolia1 Thanks so much! All responses will aid me in determining which area would best suit my tastes. Currently divorced so I only have to worry about myself and what I prefer, but I must say, any talk of the "S" word, (snow) does scare me somewhat, but hey, I can deal with it as long as it isn't anything like what we typically experience during the winter months in the Great Lake State.

@cdjo23 The weather in the Puget Sound region where Renton is also located can be unpredictable.it might snow in Renton while Seattle stays wet only.it starts getting chilling around October, and winter may arrive early.
Renton is an OK area with lots of middle and lower class people living in the area.Newcastle is a small city located just north of Renton, and it's smaller than Renton but it has more people with higher income and nicer homes and neighborhoods than Renton.
A walk down 5th Ave is a lot nicer than a walk down 3rd Ave.

@nostalgiamelancolia1 You got that right! 3rd ave seems to be the street where the gangs and delinquents hang out. Way too many people have gotten shot and or stabbed on 3rd so try to steer clear of it unless it's early in the day. 1st ave and Western are where you'll find most of the transients although they are scattered about really good too. I've never actually been to Manhattan so I can't compare but I can imagine how much more crowded it is over there. So does this mean that are here now?

@mixmasterpatb Thanks again; any and all info will help. I will take your advice re: the areas to avoid during my travels in the dntn area of Seattle...good info to have! If you're talking big city anywhere, you've gotta expect there will be unsavory types to avoid. I do have another question if you don't mind: still undecided after checking out much of metropolitan Seattle: Renton,Newcastle, Kent, Lakewood, etc., what can you share if anything about Everett to the north? Cont'...

@cdjo23 Edmonds, Lynwood, Everett areas are much like the Tacoma area. Pretty run down with a lot of low income dotted with neighborhoods of wealthy. Further north, you end up in the great wild west. Quaint towns and small cities all that make you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere. At least in Everett, and Lynwood, you are still close to the city and you get that quirky vibe but just with a little more risk if you know what I'm saying.

I'm glad you liked it. I did a whole bunch of them if you are interested to watch. If you have any questions about WA, let me now and I can try to answer them. Thanks for watching.
