The only good reason to watch Fate Zero and then read the VN is to have that satisfying feeling that (almost) everything has been addressed accordingly.

@father042 Seeing FSN doesn't really do you any good. The VN is the only way to go if you want Fate stay night. You can also start of with Zero if you want.

@father042 It's better to actually play the VN, if only to understand the mechanics of the world. The FS/N anime glossed over quite a bit and tried to compress 3 divergent story paths into a single plot. You can watch Fate/Zero alone, of course. The first episode does a good job of explaining the mechanics, but you'll miss some of the foreshadowing/shout-outs to Fate/Stay Night.
