In the first Australian summer since the return of the World Series Cricket exiles, the home team fielded a pace battery of Lillee, Pascoe and Hogg - but Sunil Gavaskar nevertheless chose to bat after winning the toss. They were soon in trouble with Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Viswanath, Chauhan and Yashpal all falling cheaply. Kapil Dev (22) and Sandeep Patil steadied the ship and added 67 for the sixth wicket, with Syed Kirmani also contributing a handy 27. Patil suffered two frightful blows: one on the throat from Hogg, which he bravely shrugged off, the second on the temple from Pascoe, forcing him to retire hurt for a valiant 65.

Thanks a lot for posting this and all the footage of the 1981 Melbourne test. Its rare splendid footage of a wonderful series where India tied the test series 1-1.

Cricket was of a totally different standard then!!! Can you also post clips from the 1981 Adelaide test when Patil made 174.

@msmetalc Spot on ! The telecast on NEO Cricket in India is downright bad. The only best cricket coverage nowadays telecast & commentary is from Channel 9 & SKYSPORTS, UK. The telecast from South Africa i.e. SABC, Tensports & SKY NZ is good, but not on par like Ch 9/Sky
