This was really quite amazing. I don't know if you're still in contact with the performers, but I would hope you could extend my thanks for their exhibition. Music in the USA is often shallow and meaningless - this is an art form that has lasted for several millennia.

Dear Humayoonp, Thanks for your comment, Please note that this is in fact an Afghan FOLK song which has been around for over at least 1½ century in Afghanistan. It was copied and used in the Indian film (Pakiza) in the 1950s or 60s. . .

. . . and Esteemed Ustad Rais Khan Sahib played it on Afghan Television in 1978/79 on his visit to Kabul where Ustad Bashir Ahmad Khan of Pakistan accompanied him on Table, the recording which is in black and white is still in existence and we hope in the near future either ourselves or someone else would have the possibility of uploading it onto Youtube. . .

. . .The same song “anar anar biyaa da baaleenam shabnam gul-e naar biyaa da baaleenam” has also been copied by various Iranian and Tajik singers and artisits singing and performing it instrumentally either in original or with a bit of veriation.
Please also note that: We have great respect for Ustad Rais Khan Sahib and his music and if what you commented was a fact we would never have claimed otherwise.
With kind regards!
