This is a music video off the movie Something New starring Sanaa Lathan as Kenya and Simon Baker as Brian. The movie is a good portrayal of a interacial relationship. I used the song "Colorblind" by Counting Crows.

  • I liked the video and everything, but I don't agree with the song choice 'colorblind' for the reason that I don't recognize that as a viable way to acknowledge Kenya & Brian's relationship. It's like saying that they don't see each other as black or white, which I don't think solves anything and they don't act like that in the movie. I got the impression that Brian recognizes Kenya's identity as a black woman and does what he can to understand that, not disregard it.

    Anyway, good editing XD

  • @CadaverouslyIll That's all true but this song represents Kenya's POV.

    "I am covered in skin.

No one gets to come in."

When you listen to lyrics and actually watch how I pulled it from Kenya's POV, it makes much more sense that way.

  • @dawand123 You'll disown your daughter for loving a white man when there are daughters out there who lie and steal behind their parents' backs? As long as you have a healthy daughter in a safe, loving relationship, that should be all that matters to you. There's way too much that's wrong with the world today for you to disown your daughter simply for falling in love. You're being ridiculous and clearly just trying to start something.

  • @dawand123 So we're still generalizing enemies into racial categories? I didn't know we were still living in the 50s. Times are changing. Stop being a bitter, textbook-stereotype.

  • simon baker with ya rayah music AMAZING ! :D

  • i have not watched this film but i would reckon to think that the film does not address the white boy's decision to date and marry black. It probably does not show what struggles he is going through in dating out his race.

  • Just watched the movie for the first time. Cute storyline, but didn't really like it overall. :/

  • do any body know any other bw wm movies thats similar to this one!

  • @darkmountains7- The look you are refering to is priceless, and my take on it is as that black community expression goes Brian's nose was "wide open" for Kenya. He wanted her in the worst way. He had fallen hook, line and sinker for her, ha,ha,ha,ha.

  • @lovejoypain, I agree with you. I do believe he enjoyed doing this movie, in one of the extra segment on the Movie DVD he said that he likes doing love stories and how there aren't enough of those types of movies done in Hollywood. Also, i think it was in the People magazine interview of him and Sanaa they asked them if they were romantics and Sanaa said " I am" & Simon said "I'm hopeless" that is he is hopelessly romantic, Okay that does it, I want me a Simon Baker of my own!!!!!

  • Great choice of song!!

  • @dawand123 youre a nut job, black women are not the only ones who would sleep with a white person, where i livew i hear black dudes every day talk about how they love a black sista, but they will jump on a white or asian chick in a hot second. it doesnt bother me none cuz i don't like black men sexually they are still fun to kick it with though! :)

  • WOW. Perfect edits, perfect choice of song. This video's creator is someone who has LIVED this. Me too (see my channel wallpaper). I loved this movie when it came out.
