In Newark, NJ...

Former New Jersey Governor, James E. McGreevey, is once again campaigning, but not for political office. The former New Jersey governor is hoping to be accepted as a candidate for the priesthood in the Episcopal Church, which has begun ordaining openly gay clergy.

McGreevey, who has already earned a Divinity Degree, had his application to become a postulate rejected last month. He says he plans to continue trying, and his current work is a [sort] of test ground of his commitment.

McGreevey is a recovery specialist at the Integrity House, a residential drug treatment center in Newark.

McGreevey, who resigned as governor of New Jersey in 2004, announced at a press conference that year that he was "a gay American." The former Governor had been married twice, with two children. He claims that his resignation as Governor was a result of blackmail by a man, with whom he admits to have had extra marital affairs.

Neither the former Governor nor the Episcopal Diocese of Newark would discuss the status of McGreevey's application for the priesthood.

In Washington, D.C. ...

The Supreme Court is refusing to hear an atheist's challenge to religion in government, complaining about President Barack Obama's adding of "so help me God" to his inaugural oath.
On Monday, the high court denied to hear an appeal from Michael Newdow, who is arguing that references to God in government are unconstitutional, and infringing on his religious beliefs.

In Minneapolis, MN...

Pastor Derrick Trevor Griffin, an associate minister at the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, was charged with 2nd degree intentional murder, for the May 10 shooting death of Kristopher Miller.

It is alleged that Miller had an ongoing relationship with Griffin's estranged wife.

Hennpin County Prosecuter, Mike Freeman, intends to convene a grand jury to seek 1st degree murder charges, due to the killing being allegedly premeditated. Freeman is quoted as saying, "He had been stalking her, and he killed the man she was seeing."

Griffin is being held in lieu of 1 million dollars bail, and will make his first court appearance Tuesday.

The victim, a member of the supporting staff at North High in Minneapolis, is survived by his two daughters, several siblings, and his parents.

In Kirkuk, Iraq...

Ashur Issa Yaqub, a Christian construction worker, was mutilated and killed by Iraqi insurgents that kidnapped Yaqub over the weekend, demanding $100,000 in ransom, according to police and medical officals.

Kirkuk provincial police chief, Major General Jamal Taher Bakr is quoted as saying, "A police patrol found the body of the young Christian man, his head was almost completely cut off." Bakr added that he believed Al-Qaeda insurgents were responsible for the killing.

The victim, Yaqub, is survived by his wife and three children.

In Politics...

Former Republican Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, has announced he will not be seeking the oval office in 2012. Huckabee made his announcement this weekend on his Fox News cable program.

Huckabee, who is a Baptist Minister, is quoted as saying, "It really came down for me to a very personal, a very intimate and, as I explained last night in the announcement, a spiritual decision."

Political analysts are saying his announcement makes a wide open Republican pool of candidates even more unpredictable.

Huckabee is not endorsing another candidate at this time.
