"We Who Have No Flags"
by Colin Hassard's High Flying Words

You call me a Taig, I call you a Hun
Take it with a pinch of salt, lemon
Tequila shots to numb your tongue
Old mistakes made by the young

Cloaked in the guise of an acronym
Do the nameless, shameless even know their sin?
With an I.O.U. in education
Bring in the band as the poem begins

I never felt Irish, I never was a Brit
No citizenship would ever seem to stick
Spood-fed, chewed the political shit
That stuck in my throat as I choked on it

In tales of the gun a whisper is a bomb
This face, disgraced, no place to belong
Wouldn't join the gang as it seemed odds-on
If everyone's right, then everyone's wrong.

We who have no flags
We who have no flags have no borders
Discard the disorder and dream beyond these kerbstone corners

We who have no flags
We who have no flags have only screams
Red, blue, orange and green
Share white canvas from which our kind gleam

We are the compass
An accomplice to the crime
If silence is all we find to unite us
Beneath the lies that bind us we accomplish
More than some riches from rags
We who have no flags.

You call me a Jew, I call you a Kraut
Peering through the blind with suspicion and doubt
Never said a word when they burnt them out
So you tell me what it's all about

Lay it all down when history comes
When you'll judge me on my actions
And judge yourself on intentions
But that's just the way that the world is run

Prayed to God when you thought he needed ya
Never heard back now feelings of acedia
Trying to find truth in the mainstream media
Throwing up lies likes they suffer from bulimia

Hanging on your neck is a crucifix
The Holy book has you transfixed
But something that you may have missed
'Thou shalt not kill' is number 6.

We who have no flags
We who have no flags have no borders
Discard the disorder and dream beyond these kerbstone corners

We who have no flags
We who have no flags have only screams
Red, blue, orange and green
Share white canvas from which our kind gleam

We are the compass
An accomplice to the crime
If silence is all we find to unite us
Beneath the lies that bind us we accomplish
More than some riches from rags
We who have no flags.

You said rag-head like a lunatic Yank
Rolling into Kabul in an armoured tank
The truth was a trick when the reasons stank
Greedy politicians are who we thank

From that time, their time, now it's ours
Big men throwing their weight in bars
Still we fight in pointless wars
A ladder to the moon couldn't reach the stars

Call me a Hun or call you a Taig
Try to connect but your mind's engaged
A past and a future washed down the drain
We can't keep repeating the mistakes we made.

We who have no flags
We who have no flags have no borders
Discard the disorder and dream beyond these kerbstone corners

We who have no flags
We who have no flags have only screams
Red, blue, orange and green
Share white canvas from which our kind gleam

We are the compass
An accomplice to the crime
If silence is all we find to unite us
Beneath the lies that bind us we accomplish
More than some riches from rags
We who have no flags.

Sticks and stones and calling names
Don't look for reasons or try to explain
A past a future washed down the drain
We can't repeat the mistakes we made

Sticks and stones and calling names
The message was simple, I'll say it again
A past a future washed down the drain
We can't repeat the mistakes we made

We who have no flags
We who have no. We who have no.
We who have no flags
We. Who. Have. No. Flags.

All words written by Colin Hassard and printed with kind permission.

    A piece of art.

It just goes to show that Buckfast is Dylan Thomas in a bottle, and this is the result of it fermenting within the depths of Colin.

Last minute and a bit is the best, hope the radio edit doesn't lose this! Great imagery with the megaphone as well.
