Welcome to American Cultural Lessons and Tutorials

I am Jennifer Kumar and I want to help International Students (expats and all immigrants) get better adjusted to life in America, so you can live your best life- quicker!

In this video I present some cultural adjustment tips for going to school and college. These lessons are inspired by the by my own life abroad, your interesting path to a better life and self discovery here and the book Culturally Speaking - Find it here http://tinyurl.com/lng77v

What to learn in this video:
How to refer to (address) your teachers/professors.
How to greet your professors.
Question of time- when should you arrive to a class/meeting?
What does '101' or "one -oh- one" refer to?
How many students will be in your classes?
When will the teacher show up to class?
Start discussion on attendance, class participation, timeliness, class cancellations, etc.

These tips can be used for the general population also! :)

  • It's true that people come to US from everywhere to study, among other reasons. I am confused why you seem so Anti-American. I guess America can be a scapegoat, being the biggest, etc. No country is perfect, every country has it's problems. As long as any country is run by humans... it will have it's imperfections. We have to take the good with the bad... that's the reality of life! America is surely not for everyone, but it can be for many.

  • I am going to west virginia university this spring.. frm middle-east

  • @DRm2mon Congrats on your admission into a college in WV... Which one will you be attending and what's your major? Congrats and wish you all the success! Hope you found something useful in this video. I made a part two as well, but youtube won't let me link it here :(

  • @DRm2mon Fantastic. You will surely have an exciting time. Maybe you have already started your program. It's super-cold in West Virginia as compared to the Middle East. That's a beautiful and scenic part of the country you will be in. Good luck with your studies. Let me know if my videos helped with practical adjustment. What can I change/add? :)

  • Thank you AdamToUni and jan2020able for stopping by. I am hoping this is useful to you and your friends, too.

  • Take my advice and save your parents hard earned money. Education to high school is a joke. University education is ok but way over rated. Racism is a big problem here. Since the U.S. is a police/ prison state, you run the risk of serving a long sentence for petty or even no crime. So, why do most around the world think it's a mecca? Because of intimidation. Look up gang stalking, gang stalking TV, gang stalking survivor, cell phone stalking, Monarch II (pt twelve), freedom's bloody corpse, etc.
