  • how do you keep the sticky rice from sticking to the bamboo basket? Is black sticky rice steam the same way?

  • If you oversteam the rice, it will stick to the bamboo basket. For black sticky rice, you must mix with white sticky rice and soak longer before cooking. More info in my website.

  • is this the same rice used in bah chang or rice dumpling??

  • I'm not sure but make the label on the package should read "glutinous" to know you have sticky rice.

  • I used my basket for the first time and it worked well, but I found that because of the tight weave I had to cook the rice a little longer. Also, some of the color of the bamboo came off on the rice even though I washed it first. I guess that is normal as it steams, but if there is any special way to break in a new bamboo cooker, that might be good to mention.

  • Make sure you have the correct rice. The label of the package should say "glutinous". Thai jasmine rice is not sticky rice.
