We were fortunate to be able to attend an Evensong service inside Westminster Abby in London. This is a clip of the choir from Christ Church singing the Anthem.

  • anybody know the title of this song? and the composer?

  • @ds1868 The Abbey is certainly under the authority of the Church of England--but as a Royal Peculiar, the Abbey is not under the jurisdiction of any bishop but rather under the jurisdiction of the sovereign. And since the sovereign is the supreme governor of the Church of England I'd say that makes the Abbey "under the authority of the Church of England. Other churches--the chapels royal, for instance--are Royal peculiars also. The privilege and custom dates from long before the Reformation.

  • Now I am going to attend when I visit, and might not have without seeing the post here. So I guess there are positives and negatives to this. I promise I wont video anything though.

  • I'm litterly pouring out tears like crazy! I mean wen Kate and will got married today I threw up in my mouth! And I thought my visit to st patricks was omg! Well both r but still!

  • So so beautiful. I almost cried.

  • Although Churchill and the Cabinet opposed televising the coronation, the Queen overruled them and directed that it be televised. Even so, the Queen requested that the Annointing not be shown, and it was not. Recording the ceremony for private use might be excused, but publishing it on YouTube? The important thing to remember is that this is a church service, not a public performance.

  • such a beautiful choir! One I would rather remember than record. but thanks for postin anyway. :-D

  • I was, myself, a Chorister at the Abbey until just a few years ago, and ds1868 makes a good point. Services are often recorded officially, with permission from the Dean and Chapter, for broadcast on Radio and on TV. The main problem I had with people recording the choir was the distraction it caused, not only to those singing, but to the congregation that were trying to worship. Although I can see the attraction of recording the services, it is made quite clear by signs that it isn't allowed.

  • @shaun3701 That's not the point being made. Permission was given at the last moment to record the Coronation in 1953. But permission was given. In normal services the congregation are respectfully asked, with clear signs, NOT to make recordings. If you don't understand that then it's your head that's got problems! Or rather, it's the cheap, tacky and disrepsectful little world you live in that would appear to be the problem.

  • @ds1868 so I suppose when her coronation was videotaped in that exact spot in 1953, the entire world was showing her disrespect? get your head out of your arse mate.
