Here's some talk about hypochondria.

PLEASE REMEMBER: I'm not a doctor or a mental health expert. Any advice I give should never be a substitute for professional medical and or psychiatric help. All of my advice is solely based on my own experiences and research. Although I talk about downplaying our hypochondria fears, obviously if you are experiencing a medical emergency, dial emergency services or get to the nearest hospital.

  • I (actually) have IST (Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia) with pre-hypertension. These are both genetic disorders and are controlled with medicine. But, sometimes, I get really terribly bad bouts of palpitations (mostly at night) and I get over worried about having a number of very nasty cardiac diseases (which I have tested negative for). I have Hypochondria as well as OCD, anxiety, PTSD, and Bipolar disorder. Finding other people out there like me really helps! <3

  • @irkofan The heart is a scary thing to have a condition with. I'm not sure what I have, but something with my heart is amiss. I've been terrified to see the doctor about it, but I will eventually. It may just be PVC related to Mitral Valve Prolapse which runs in our family. Amen to finding other people out there is helpful to us!

  • I am new to discovering hypochondria, Its getting really scary. Do you have any idea if CBT really helps?

  • @christinemarie696 I would think that it would. I haven't really treated my hypochondria much, as the other anxiety has been more destructive in my life. I'm receiving CBT for the agoraphobia, which has helped me indeed. I would think that if CBT has helped my recovery from agoraphobia that it would probably help other types of anxiety, including hypochondria. And that's just my personal opinion.

  • @bwelmhouse1 Thank you. What helps you, and how long have you had hypochondria? How long does it take to get rid of it? In your experience?

  • @christinemarie696 Hi! I have had hypochondria since young kid. I kinda outgrew some of it as I entered adulthood. I still have it to some degree, but not too bad. Just gets to me sometimes. I have found that in the course of my therapy for the other aspects of my anxiety, that my hypochondria has improved. I'm not really getting treatment for it specifically, as my other anxieties are much worse, and therefore my priorities currently. The length of time to recovery varies individually.

  • @steviesmj Yes ..years ago...Said its nothing to worry about

  • @cgarbiano

Hi cgarbiano..did you ever get your palpitations checked out?

  • Palpitations are at the root of my anxiety and I dont know how to live with it..HELP

  • @irkofan This is similar to me, i have a heart issue but not a coronary one. My doctor said it doesnt even cause heart attacks. I have been on the EKG 2 times andboth times normal. Doctors have listened to my heart plenty of times, even during a point where i SWORE i was going to have a heart attack and he just looked at me and said, buddy your perfectly fine. Despite all this I still worry about heart issues that are not there when I have pains or palpitations.

  • I go through a lot of what you do man! I am constantly worried about health stuff as well. If you have a facebook, add me - william huntsman.

  • i get numbness alot now, its fuckin annoying lol

  • Hey there! Have you tried anxiety zero technique (I think its at anxiety0.info)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my father pretty much cured panicks with it.

  • @bwelmhouse1 Definately get that looked at when you can. Heart problems, I learned, shouldn't be messed around with. At the very least, have ask for an EKG (it's not too expensive if you have it done in the office). My current beef is having all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. I am so not looking forward to it. X__x
