I work with young horses, and if they develop something like this you HAVE to get them past it or they will get worse as they grow and be a terrible ride! You did the right thing- anyone who says otherwise obviously doesn't know what they're talking about!

Well seated! The horse i ride does this all the time! At big cars with loud engines, or at other horses, and when the polo ponies are being exercised and we walk by their field!

I've had a spooky horse too. I found out that it was smart to bend him throug the innside rain/leg when he got distracted.

if the horse is still spooky. it sometimes helps to do shoulder in, away of the scary things. But you handled him very well.

I had only owned this horse for a few days when this video was taken. First, I wanted to stay ON, ... second, he was being rather naughty... I am not going to give positive reinforcement to negative behavior. I did IGNORE it, and gave him a chance to stop and "look" since it was one of our first rides. Spooking/bolting can sometimes develop into a dangerous evasion of work. Horses are smarter than people give them credit.

There were cows on the other side of the fence and hedge that day... (sometimes birds would fly out of the hedge in the summer). The pole on the ground helped to divert his attention.
