Певица шикарная!!!

This must have been the scene that pissed off Stalin.

Most certainly I've no patience with the re-interpretations so many, many of today's directors love to foist upon opera - I hate it all, period!!!! Stick with the composer's intentions and traditional, no-nonsense sets (and costumes!), and that's all!!!!
-
@IJBLondon: just look up the score, study the sung-text and the (few) stage-directions (and remember that the sex-interlude calls for actual intercourse {even if abbreviated due to the little time the thing takes!}), and then you'll know what I mean!
-
I thought it worked very well. What stage directions are you referring to?
-
All three trombones first, then just one solo-trombonist.
The stage-director for this show deserves to be shot!! I can't tell you how I HATE the way he's travestying so many of the stage-directions and acting for a vision that just makes no sense relative to what's really happening in the opera!!!
2/5 (saved by the musical performance only from being 1 - and even that would otherwise be too good!)

i have to write a paper on this opera
is that ejaculation bit played by a basson, or what?
thanks in advance

Wow, effective staging with the armoire and a bedroom that looks like a cell. Ventris is getting a paunch as he gets older, but he still owns this role. Thanks for posting this.

they are making out like animals.
come to think of it... this scene now seems cribbed from a Graham vick production from the 90s
