Hello from ZodTTD of zodttd.com!
Here's Mortal Kombat running on Pandora via mame4all!
I had such fun with Franxis' mame4all project for the GP2X, that I decided to give it a port to the Pandora. Pandora is a upcoming high end gaming handheld (homepage: openpandora.org). I did this port in approximately two hours. It uses the Cyclone and DrZ80 assembly cores. It has fully working sound via OSS. Everything I have thrown at it runs fullspeed and requires throttling, and this is all at 500MHz instead of the 600MHz+ the Pandora can handle with ease! Also worth mentioning I am using a very early devkit, so I had to scale the screen as well as rotate it within software, so performance will be even better on newer devkits and the final product!

Mortal Kombat was unplayable due to performance on the GP2X. With the power of the Pandora gaming handheld, you can now play it just as it was meant to be played!

Hope you enjoy this video of Mortal Kombat emulated via mame4all ported to the Pandora! Thanks,
ZodTTD

  • any word on when this will come out?... and also will it have any other games of its own besides just like emulators and stuff... also you think this would be able to handle an n64 emulator

  • Definitely check the OpenPandora homepage for release dates of the Pandora handheld. MAME should be ready to go when the Pandora is shipped and made public. Soon ;)

And yes, I do believe Pandora can handle N64 emulation. Which is me saying a lot, as I believe N64 is NOT worth trying on the iPhone and The Wiz.

    This handheld is a beast!

  • Very nice Mr.Z :)

  • Thanks Craig! I'm loving the Pandora!

  • The Pandora has the screens, mainboards, and keymats in mass production.

    The case will follow soon.

    It is far from vaporware.

  • @DrBeardo - No idea. I can't even remember what comment I was replying to. It doesn't matter anymore.

  • @cyborgtroy Not quite, depends on if you are talking NTSC which is 3:2 720x480 or PAL which is 4:3 768x576. So is the Game US or Euro?

  • @DrBeardo - Actually it's 5:3 or 15:9, which means there will be some bars on the top of bottom of 16:9 videos.

I was just saying that Mortal Kombat was 4:3 since older consoles were usually 4:3 aspect... Was I incorrect?

  • @cyborgtroy nope, 800x480 is 16:9, 800x600 and 640x480 are 4:3. That means that all your 1080p and 720p videos play full screen, theres even a DSP on the GPU to handle acceleration of pretty much every video format. Even H.264, Theora and VP8.

  • Fuck! X(

  • No, but you just lost your bet.

  • Bet you feel like an idiot now.

  • Umm.....I hate to break it to ya but this thing (in terms of specs) makes the psp look like a child's toy. The processor is nearly twice as fast and it has 4x the ram. Plus a graphics card.

  • Amen

  • You can also emulate PS1 games and do other stuff.
