Charlemagne

Charlemagne was King (768-814) and emperor (800-814) of the Franks. He is seen as one of the greatest conquerors in history. He conquered the Lombard Kingdom, Saxony, Bavaria and the Spanish March. But his reign is also famous for a cultural florescence, the Carolingian Renaissance. On the height of his power he was crowned to emperor in Rome by the Pope.

Great video , in fact the French have had 2 emperor Charlemagne and Napoleon , even if Charlemagne was also emperor of the German but i think at one moment Napoleon was also emperor of the German .

I don´t think we can speak of a french nation and a german nation at that time. But it´s okay when French or Germans want to see him as one of them.

In fact Napoleon was called only "Emperor of the French", but he ruled also over parts of Germany and great parts of entire Europe. It´s a pity that he didn´t use the chance to treat the other european peoples not as subordinates but as friends.

Ta vidéo est subperbe mais attention à l'amalgame : tu as raison de dire que Charlemagne restaure l'Empire Romain d'Occident (c'était sa vision ainsi que celle du Pape Léon III et de l'Empereur Bizantin Michel Ier Rhangabé) mais ce n'est pas le cas des autres empereurs d'Europe tel que tu l'a montré avec Napoléon I (qui lui était Empereur des français) et tant d'autre, j'ai crue reconnaitre un empereur Autrichien (8:51).

Les empereurs j´ai montré ont vu Charlemagne et son empire comme leur idéal. Ils etaient empereurs romains. C´est juste que le territoire de leur empire n´etaient pas le même territoire de l´Empire Romain d´Occident mais ils voulaient être successeurs de Charlemagne.

La personne à 8:51 est Joseph II, empereur romain-allemand (1765-1790) et souverain de l´Autriche (1780-1790).
