Katyusha, Katusha or Katjusha (Russian: Катюша) is a Russian Soviet wartime song about a girl longing for her beloved, who is away on military service. The music was composed in 1938 by Matvei Blanter and the lyrics were written by Mikhail Isakovsky. It was first performed by the celebrated Russian folk singer Lidiya Ruslanova.
The version I present here is sung by Quartet Kalinka whose mp3 is available online.

This song has been synchronized, edited, and uploaded for didactic purposes. Instructors of Russian as a Foreign Language can use it to teach Russian pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar.
When students are familiar with the lyrics, instructors can play the 'real' karaoke (see user2812's videos)

Transliteration from Russian (among many and different versions - see google)
Rastsvetali yabloni i grushi,
Poplyli tumani nad rekoy
Vyhodila na bereg Katyusha
Na vysokij bereg, na krutoy
Vyhodila, pesnyu zavodila
Pro stepnovo sizovo orla
Pro tovo kotorovo lyubila
Pro tovo ch'i pis'ma beregla.
Oy, ty pesnya, pesenka devich'ya,
Ty leti za yasnym solntsem vslyed
I boytsu na dal'nem pogranich'e
Ot Katyushi pyereday privyet
Pust' on vspomnit devushku prostuyu
Pust' uslyshit' kak ona poyot.
Pust' on zemlyu berezhyot rodnuyu
A lyubov' Katyusha sbyerezhyot.
Rastsvetali yabloni i grushi,
Poplyli tumani nad rekoy
Vyhodila na bereg Katyusha
Na vysokij bereg, na krutoy

English Translation
Apples and pears were blossoming
Mist on the river floating
On the bank Katyusha stepped out
On the high steep bank.

Stepped out, started a song
About one grey steppe eagle
About her loved one
Whose letters she cherished.

Oh song, maiden's song
Fly towards the clear sun
And to the warrior on a far away border
Bring Katyusha's greeting.

May he remember this simple maiden
and hear her signing
may he save our motherland
and love, Katyusha will save

  • This songs sounds wayy better when played on Russian traditional instruments :D

  • @docline333 oh, I'm very sorry :)

  • @VladislavaLatypova

Tendras razon pero en espanol las letras no se pronuncian como en inglés (la "e" por ejemplo), intenté escribir algo que corresponde a la escritura espanola

  • @docline333 hey! don't wanna be rude, but I'm from Russia and probably I know better than you. Though your way isn't that bad...

    Propongo otra transcripcion:

Rasvitali iablani i grushy, paplyli tumani nad rikoï / vy’adili na biric Katiusha, na vysokyï biric na krutoï. – Vy’adila pisniu zavadila /pro stipnova sizava orla / Pro tavo katorava liubila/

    Pro tavo chi pisma birigla

  • @user2812 is Cyrillic alphabet...

  • @b4rn1k4 The problem is, if you do not know the letters, you will never get the sounds right . I'm Polish, but I have learnt Russian for 10 years. IMHO the sounds are so different you will never get the right English pronounciation. Either you lrarn the letters (the bukvas) or you are lost.
