@NFSGamerUSA thats actually very true. solid axles are standard equipment for off-roading. however, for being a vehicle with 4-wheel independant suspension, the ML does manage to handle itself well off road.

definatley true they have lost their true utilitarian fuction because there more towards road manners and luxury now but still pretty good on the ruff stuff compared to other brands

That's great and will work for rough terrain, but for obstacles it's a no go. I find it funny that they use air shocks to accomplish the same thing a solid axle does on its own: articulation. Way more complex for no benefit. Actually, it's more of a hassle because it must be manually articulated and you have to wait for the shocks to adjust. Even then it can't articulate anywhere near as well. View 6 and 6A at the following link tinyurl(.)com / mkq773 (without the parenthesis and spaces).
