Live Blitz game played on Chesscube.com against tdtjani(1963). Vienna Opening, Steinitz Gambit.

I guess this is why masters don't play like this anymore!

  • Wow.. Crazy game. Some of your moves seem so counter-intuitive. I actually thought that your position seemed pretty decent right out of the opening. The problem that you kept on facing throughout that entire game seemed to be piece placement, which caused you to get way behind in time.

  • Problem was bad king security and wasted time taking the pawn on f4. Even though the bishop snatched up the pawn on f4, its brother on f7 would eventually take revenge

  • It's been a while, Shidinov! I think the point of 15...Qg5 is to make the threat of ...f4 real. Otherwise ...f4 without Qg5 allows White to play Ng4.

Not sure what you felt about 16.Ng2, while stifling White's own c1 Bishop, threatens to kick Black's Queen around with Bf4 or Bh4.

Despite the loss though, the opening play seems quite sharp. Nice.

  • That is a good observation.

  • Hey, I added you on Chesscube (I'm "actingstudent"). Would love to play you some time. I enjoy your videos!

  • Why dont you played Nc3 instead of d4?

  • Thanks for another Vienna movie.

The Steinitz gambit is crazy stuff. Steinitz said "The aim of the gambit is to place the King in a position whence it can move to either flank" but Keres said 'This poor King not only occupies a bad position but also obstructs the path of his pieces.' Keres was right Steinitz was wrong. LOL I usually play 3. Bc4 aiming for a good KGD or sometimes the Igor Glek's Four Knights 4.g3 against 2 ... Nc6

  • If you could, may you give me the pgn to your game here?

  • Your annotations make these slightly more entertaining, i recommend you keep those up. :D
