peterphillip, do you really only consider a piece valid if it displays a procedural interaction with a medium? What is the minimum number of ideas a piece must examine in order to be complicated enough for you? In this art, I see infinite medium-specific nuance. The medium is not, however, the machine itself as I believe you see it. Rather, it is the spectrum of movements and sounds in space and time created by these works that the artists are manipulating.

The problem with machine art is this, artistry is in the nuances of the artist's interaction with a medium... machine art lacks a procedural interaction with a medium. It is a container for 1 idea to set the machine process on its way. In comedy this would be called a 1 liner. In music pressing the demo mode button on a keyboard. This is machine building at best. By the standards of machine art one could look at any computer ever made as the ne plus ultra.
