This video shows you how to pay less for more Sculpey , also how to get the prefered grey color through a mixing technique without needing to pay for Pasta machine.

Reason : Original Sculpey is the cheapest and cost half of Super Sculpey however Original Sculpey is too soft to hold firm details and smudges easily. Super Sculpey is firmer and harder. Mixing these 2 would get the right firmness and consistency for sculpting. Sculpey III is to get the color grey. Grey is a preferred color for seeing details and shadows better. So the amount you get cost lesser if you were to pay for the same amout for Super Sculpey alone.

Ingredients : Super Sculpey , Original Sculpey , Sculpey III
Measurement : 1 box Super Sculpey( 1 lb ) to 1 box Original Sculpey ( 1.75 lb) +2 Sculpey III ( Black )
Steps : Twisting , Rolling and Folding. Keep repeating these steps till you get a consistent mix between these 3 sculpeys.
Time : Varies to individual , It took me 30 minutes. Good hand and arm work out!

Don't worry mixing these 3 still yields a good result after baking. Nothing exploded! :)

  • Well that makes sense. If one likes the softness of the mixture and is not making a final one of a kind piece, durability of the cured mix is not so much an issue. There are just soooo many people who will make a sculpture out of plain white sculpey and then sell it. When it breaks, and it will, it just adds to the public perception of Polymer clay as a junk medium or a kids toy. Fine though for molding and casting. Thanks for the clarification.

  • Very cool vids - and some really cool tips - Thx

pasta cutter can blend colors a bit easier :]

  • @DaggumGar - you have to bake polymer clay or else it would pick up every dirt and lint going and never be permanently hard. What you can us is cold porcelain - you can make it or buy it in Michaels and it never needs baking - it air dries.h

  • ok, I just found this video! Thanks for the information it helps a lot! I've only ever done one sculpt (years ago when I was a kid) and it turned out pretty well. I am getting back into working with clay to get my kids excited about it. Maybe I'll have something to post in the not too distant future!

Once again, thank you so much for the inspiration!

  • run from this recipe regular sculpey holds no details, it is pure garbage and a waste of your scultping time, in fact it's merely a Dollar to 1.50 less that super sculpey so you save yourself nothing. Instead take that cash and go to Michaels and use a 40 - 50 percent off coupon and get 2 super sculpeys or a sculpey firm, you'll be much better off than using this, though for super sculpey I'd add a sculpy III

  • Do you still upload videos? I would love to see more of your work. :) I have to say, your anatomy videos were a great help. However, I have a question: Were you using a brush or a pointed tool to create the line detail (the appearance of muscle fibers) on the muscles?

  • I wish you had a camcorder it would be much better

  • Out of curiosity how much does this mixture cost you in total? Looks like something I might have to try out.

  • Hi I love your tutorial! Can you please tell me, if I want to make a PVC figure more muscular, can I apply a layer of Super Sculpey (flesh/skin toned) over the whole body of the figure and let it be without baking? I'm new in the craft please forgive me if it's a silly question. Thank you!
