Negative Douglas

Winner of third place in the 2006 Three Rivers Film Festival shorts program. Negative Douglas is a "documentary about a young boy, a few stickers, a rock band, and the City of Pittsburgh."

Negative Douglas documents an underground-art mini-phenomenon in Pittsburgh which began as a banal circa-1970s grade-school class photo of a boy named Douglas, swiped off the Internet and e-mailed between friends. Douglas was then turned into sticker art, a band, a popsicle-stick-style mask, and a display at the world's skinniest art gallery.

Negative Douglas is a story of how boredom becomes art, and art turns back into boredom.

The photo was taken from a 1968 Shelley Jr. High School Annual (don't know how they got hold of a color copy of it though). The real (live) Negative Douglas is/was a little freaked out about it seeing his photo online, but he seems to bee OK about it now.

I have actually known this guy since we were in the 4th grade. This picture came from our 7th grade annual in Jr. High School. We are still friends to this very day. In fact, my picture is a couple of pictures before his in the annual. We had the same style hair-cuts in those days.

You might think this is a joke but that picture is of my dad when he when he lived in Shelly Idaho. It is seating on in a photo album at my house!
