    No, it was barbaric and ignorant, yet it cannot be changed and some good came of it.

    And "they" is an awful lot of people; the church, the parents, the conservatoire, the boys themselves.

    Only a handful became successful but for almost 100 years between and 3000 and 5000 boys were castrated every year.

    If I agree or not is pointless, don't you think?
