This video is of a 1914 Maxixe ("Ma-sheesh") which changes into a modern Samba halfway though. It was performed by Ruth Evans and Charles Worsley at the 2009 Seacoast Classic in Dover, New Hampshire. The music starts with "Corta Jaca" by Henrique Cazes & Choro 1900 and switches to "Raiz Negra" by Tupi Nago -- although both pieces of music have been sliced and diced and had the tempos changed somewhat.

  • I should have worded that better: the first piece was composed by Gonzaga and is performed here by Cazes and his group of musicians. Thx for the correction.

  • A correction: the first song is not by Henrique Cazes, but by Chiquinha Gonzaga! ;)
