THESE 3 SONGS I GET THANKS TO HAROLD SMITH OR SWETE HAROLD,FORMER BASSIST OF BLACK RUSSIAN,HE'S GOT STORED ON HIS STUDIO,I SHARED THIS STUFF WITH ALAIN JOHANNES AND ROBIN KAPUSTIN,SON OF NAT.
THIS IS AN EXCERPT OF A MESSAGE OF HAROLD TO ME:
Say Man!!!

Thanks Mariano! Rose visited my MySpace page...that was really cool. It's good to know that there are so many out there that want to know about Natasha' roots before "Eleven", "Queen", etc...I uploaded three MP3's from a rehearsal of "Black Russian" back in 1978 in the basement of the girlfriend of the lead singer at that time "Tommy Hill". I've been looking for Tommy without any success. The drummer, "Richard Smith" died a few months after this rehearsal was taped, also of "Cancer". After the Drummer died, one of the producers of "The Wiz", Guy Costa, known as Mr. Motown LA, was interested in singing the group to "Motown", but after the Wiz was finished filming, Guy made an appointment to hear the band, now that we were fully formed and had finished an album Demo for him, but after he heard the band without Richard the Drummer, he was only interested in the "Russian" half of the band, he wasn't moved by how we sounded with a replacement Drummer, so Natasha learned all the leads, and she and her husband "Sergey", and Vladimir moved to LA, signed with Motown and released their first album, which didn't do well. We were all destroyed that Richard had died, we all knew that it would almost be impossible to replace him...he was that good, as you will hear from the rehearsal tapes converted to MP3's on my page. I had met Natasha' father in a car once, and at this point and time I'm not sure that it was Natasha or Sergey" father, it's been just that long. I know if I can find Tommy Hill he could tell you more than I could...he was with Natasha and Sergey and Vladimir before me. Tommy was the one who approached me at a club, looking for Bass players, and asked me to check them out...the rest was history.

I'll do my best to answer any questions you may still have, I know I have more tapes, but so far what I posted on my page is all that hasn't been damaged. Tommy's girlfriend may have pictures of the group, but I don't remember her name. Somewhere there is the tapes of the Studio Recordings (Demo) the band did just before Richard died. What a powerful sound we had. The MP3s are from the first rehearsal that I attended as a new member of Black Russian. In one of the songs "Come Make Me Free", I just let everyone play without me so I could have a clean take of the song, because I hadn't learned the tune yet...you should hear how beautiful that song sounded after I learned the song and we recorded it in the Studio. It would make you cry. Natasha sang background vocals...I can't remember if Vladimir was at that rehearsal or not. I believe he was.

The song "Come Make Me Free" was changed to "Leave Me Now", with Natasha singing and with new lyrics as well, for the Motown release, but it was no comparison to how the old "Black Russian" played the song.

I'll send Rose a message to let her know about the MP3s I posted.

I'll catch up with you later Mariano, I hope all is going well with you.

  • the white noise is brutal, but the music behind it is fantastic!

  • It's rough, but it's funky...the studio version of this is a MOTHER! I'm trying to find out who has that now. The drummer is a power house as well....(rest his soul)!
