Caring Makes Us Human - Troy Chapman

September 28, 2008 · When a scruffy cat wandered into the prison yard at a Michigan correctional facility, Troy Chapman says the little orange stray disrupted the tough code of prison culture. Chapman, who was convicted of murder in 1985, says the cat reminded him that everyone wants to be needed.

man, he did something at 20 years old and has spent more time than he was alive when it happened, in prison since then... I've made some stupid mistakes and done things i've regretted and i'm only 23. the chance to learn from mistakes is vital, especially at such a young age. I don't know the details of how the guy killed the other guy, but in a bar fight.. I'm sure he was drunk and probably didn't know his own strength.. that doesn't excuse it, but, give the guy a chance to redeem himself

I almost bawled over this video. Just imagining what it looked like... this poor guy, whatever his crimes, having been deprived of something as simple as giving affection... and then there comes this cat that allows him to know his Humanity...

60-90 for the stupid (presumably drunken) mistake of a young man is ridiculous. The world needs serious prison reform.
