Dos and Don'ts of Gift Giving in the Workplace - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.

Corporate giving can be a challenge. Especially during the holiday season. Do you give a gift or do not you give a gift. What kind of a gift do you give and what value of the gift. Very challenging. It cannot be to personal, generic. Depends even on when you give the gift, that its perhaps not in front of other people. So that they do not feel inappropriate, perhaps they did not give.

Depending on the cultures, for example; in Asia, certain gifts are just totally not acceptable and the same in the middle east, and because our culture in almost every business today is so intercultural and racial, we see opportunities when people could go astray and do something inappropriate. Usually the boss will do a gifting before you did a gifting. But it needs to be significant, it needs to be personal but not too personal.

So a good example, safe example, is going to be a wonderful business book or a subscription to a business magazine. My personal preference is a hand written note on quality stationary, really expressing your thanks to them for being a guide in the business that your in. That you are honoring and showing respect to them because they are a good leader. That is always a great place to start.
