I ran the source videos through a video enhancer and recompiled them at a higher bit rate. Both the sound and the video are somewhat better(you'll need to watch them in High Quality mode).
This is part 2 of a multi- part tutorial of doing Model Railroad Scenery using extruded construction foam. I start carving the scenery.

  • I am using the pink foam board for the base of the my layout and I was to add a bridge so I need to cut into my foam board, what would you recomend I use?

  • @beatleman69 If you don't want to spend money a steak serrated knife would do the trick. You could also use a utility knife, dry wall saw, hot wire foam cutter...those are few other options.

  • @beatleman69 You should be able to get one at a hardware store or else a home improvement store(Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc)

  • very helpful, but theres gotta be an easier way to do this

  • Probably a hot wire foam cutter would be faster how ever I recommend getting something decent. I had gotten a cheap cutter and it didn't work that well. Check out the cutters at Micro Mark.

  • Super! I wonder what it would be like if you used a Wood Chisel instead of the ruler......and how about an Oster Electric Knife (available at Amaz.) to carve the foam sheets....any thoughts?

  • Sure. I was just using what I immediately had on hand. When it comes to carving foam think of the John Lennon song: "Whatever gets you through the night..."

  • @thebige61 Where did you purchase the sur-foam tool? I haven't been able to find one.

  • If an electrical fire starts from say a bad switch machine, how toxic is this stuff when it burns?

  • Stanley Surform Shaver

    Model # 21-115

    Home Depot

    Store SKU # 185485

    $6.49

  • Very nice vid thanks...

  • That was so many tips I put it in my favorits

  • I had seen a vid on rocks/out croppings, etc. They cast molds in plaster and then once in place used a red/yellow/grey wash on them and it turned out amazingly real. Im wondering if using the same method on foam painted white would give the same effect.
