Note. This from a tax blog site praised by the Wall St Journal for its accuracy. However,my mistake, its for 2004. In 2008 the list is almost [ but not quite] the same , with a heavy preponderance of Red States feeding at the Federal trough and a heavy preponderance of Blue States giving more than they get. What, hypothetically, would happen to the Red States if Blue States somehow could turn off the spigot and use these revenues to take car of their own needs?
-
States receiving the least in fed revenue per dollar of fed taxes paid; New Jersey, Connnecticut, New Hampshire, Nevada, Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, Massa chusettes, California, New York. All, I believe, were Blue in 2008.
-
States receiving more in Fed spending per dollar than they recieve; DC [ no representatives but listed] N. Dakota, New Mexico, Mississippi, Alaska, W. Virginia, Montana, Alabama, S. Dakota, Arkansas [ 8 of 10 Red}
-
Red States are typically far more rural than Blue States and do not have sufficient tax bases to create and sustain the infrastructure they depend on, roads and bridges most being the most obvious examples, but also mail delivery and the cost of state police officers patrolling the vast distances typical of these states. These are simply facts of life for those in rural America, many of whom howl about wasteful federal spending yet are consistently the beneficaries of this spending.
-
The states that need 'so much tax revenue' from the federal government are almost entirely Red States who routinely vote for conservative, anti-tax conservatives while contributing less to the fed treasury than they receive. The opposite is true for Blue States, esp large Blue Staes like California, who contribute far more to the fed treasury than they receive. In short, Blue States subsidize Red States [ Alaska being one of the most heavily subsidized per capita].

...its lovely money from? And how would private schools be affected by a lack of federal government grants? And why can't unemployed state & federal government employees use their job skills for private industry? If the state and federal governments didn't NEED so much tax revenue, private businesses could use the extra money to hire more workers. And if you don't tax people's income, they'll be able to buy more goods & services---including produce from the farmers that want subsidies.

@MishuTaste...You don't have to defend yourself to me.... I know what you are.
California is flat broke, too. Your state has lost it's clout, for sure.
I don't hate Tbaggers.....I think they're funny. It's always funny to watch a bunch of dumbass adults making fools out of themselves in public.
Provides a lot of laughs...which is why I come to YouTube in the first place.

@172677 I really don't know where you come up w/ your arguments. First of all, I live in California. Second of all, I am NOT anti-government. I repeat: I am NOT anti-government. I just don't want state and federal governments to take on too much responsibility because that leads to high income & property taxes. I understand that you hate teabaggers. I get it. But why not prove that your political beliefs are better instead of calling them names? By the way, where does the government get...
-
@MishuTaste. HA! If the "government" and it's lovely money pulled out of your state, it would become a 3rd World country overnight. No schools, no industry, no state or federal employees (leading to millions out of work), no unemployment, no oil money, no subsidies for your farmers....
This is why you Tbaggers are such idiots. The government supports your state....just like every other state in the Union.
Mexico would invade you and own the entire state within 6 months.
Dumbass.
Voted Medina!
