Grip is just personal prefrence.

I use a pistol grip. I like it quite a bit, better than french. I agree that pistol is better but French does help a bit with point control

"pistol grip for better point control" Hmm... I always hear the opposite from coaches, they say french is for better point control.

Well, you might hear some arch-traditionalist, classical coach make that argument, but no one I have ever talked to has advocated French over pistol, and I think if you look at serious competitors, they overwhelmingly favour pistol. And finally from my own experience, having used French, Italian, and pistol grips, is there is no comparison. Pistol is simply all around better.
