The reed valve is very important for a high perfomance DIO engine. It must work correctly at idle and at 10,000 rpms. The valve material is of great concern when building these engines.

hi, I was wondering if you could fit reed valves to an engine that didn't come with them as standard and would it boost the power of the engine

@batesy636 Yes you can and yes it will. I have videos of me fitting a boysen reed to my honda moped and it works great.

I believe this is my problem ,My bike boggs out bad and back fires anywhere after like 1/5 throttle , I can't get above 2nd gear sometimes,I have rebuilt my carb , top end , replaced the coil , I have had my neighbor (He has allot of bikes) tru to fiddle with my carb needle and jetts but didnt help please any suggestions will help , Would a cracked reed cause the bike to bog and lose (ALL) performance?

I have a yamaha IT 200 and i wanted to know if having a stopper on the reed valves effects its performance, and if you take it off if you could get more power out of the bike

Wow man. You just completly explained it perfect to me. I'm going to school for the automotive industry, and that reed valve make a whole lot of sense. I was wandering how a two stroke with no valves (like on a four stroke) kept its vacume, and as I was searching on two strokes online(mainly because I am getting interested in pocket bikes) I came upon the term reed valve. And thanks to you for your well explain video.
