The Chase of the Leavenworth Snow Train and the Christmas Lighting Festival at Leavenworth, WA.

I left my home in Everett, WA early in the morning to catch a special train that only run on Saturdays in December. The Alki Tour Leavenworth Snow Train, operated by Amtrak. We had Amtrak P42DC #85 and Amtrak Cascades F59PHI #468 leading the train full of Amfleets and Horizon. Also on the consist was the Amtrak Dome Car and the 2 California Zephyr dome cars, which one is a observation car. We were able to catch him all the way to Leavenworth. We had numerous problems along the way, which was hilarious, but I'll let my fellow friends tell about that.

Also we were able to see couple of BNSF Freights with foreign power. The First BNSF Z Train had 2 CSX SD70MACs in the Consist. And although you can't see the rest of the consist of the BNSF Z Train at Night, there were 2 Norfolk Southern Dash 9s on the consist as well. Again, my friend will address that in another video later on.

Enjoy the video and I wish all of you will have a safe holliday.

Music: Let it Rock - Kevin Rudolf

Finding Beauty - Escala and Craig Armstrong

  • boss slide show, especially the way you have the lights come on down the street but with still photos. You know how full the snow train was? Hope to meet you at Winter Rails.

  • The Snow Train was very full. Infact, half of the buses used to transport people from the train to downtown, had to make the 2 trips between the Leavenworth Station and the Transit Center. Plus, I talked to the Amtrak Conductor at the station and it was very packed.

  • In January 29-31, there is the Tracks in the Snow railfanning trip at Stevens Pass. It would be a full 3 day railfanning trip and it is based in the Cascadia Inn at Skykomish, WA. That is where most people will be lodging if they are planning to stay overnight for the whole trip. For me, since I live in Everett, I'm hoping to do a day trip for Saturday, January 30th with them. So, if you can go on January 30th, I'll be with them most likely if all works out.
