Mass of Peace (2001), a mass setting by Eddie Cavazos was written for the faithful at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.

Originally composed in 2001, it has been sung since, at the various chapels at Lackland AFB, including the Basic Military Training (BMT) Chapel and the Permanent Party Chapel. Due to the nature of the Air Force and it's ever changing personnel as a result of change in assignments, deployments, etc...Mass of Peace has been sung and heard by thousands over the past 10 years. The mass setting has generated quite an interest in the Air Force community and it has literally been taken to all the ends of the earth!

In response to the changes in the new Roman Missal, Eddie Cavazos went to work to edit his mass setting. The result is Mass of Peace (2010). The celebratory nature of the work was kept intact during the editing process. It's lively rhythms, with it's quasi-latin flair is infectious and invites immediate participation among the people. The recording, which was expertly engineered by John Pollock at Wavemaker Studio, San Antonio, TX brings another dimension with it's acoustic driven orchestration of guitar, piano, bass and percussion.

In order to accommodate our bilingual community and other bilingual communities, Mass of Peace has also been translated into Spanish. It is our prayer that diverse communities will be able to sing/pray together using this setting.

Another element being added to, Mass of Peace (2010) is orchestration for beginner/intermediate band instruments, which are being written/arranged by Douglas Harry, former music arranger for the Air Force Band of the West, San Antonio, TX. This added feature is in response to middle /high school dependent students of our Air Force community who are involved in band/orchestra at school and want to volunteer their musical gifts to the assembly.
